Two Story Coffee

Two Story Coffee is a quaint coffeehouse located in Five Points. At any time, one can find a plethora of students prepping for their upcoming work as well as local Athens residents enjoying a delicious cup of joe. This spot appeals to many people living in Athens as it's cozy setting, quiet atmosphere, and available coffee allows for prime studying or relaxation time.

Compared to my evaluation of Hendershot's digital marketing strategies last week, Two Story blew me away. On top of sustaining a website and Facebook page, Two Story has a strong Instagram and Twitter presence as well.

The Two Story website perfectly embodies the charm of the coffeehouse. As the coffeehouse is established in what seems like an old family home, the overall theme of the site is focused around community and personal relationships. The tabs feature information on the Two Story staff, a passage on what the coffeehouse itself is about, and a message on events they hold to promote local artists.

On top of the website doing a great job demonstrating Two Story's identity, the website also spotlights links to their three social media pages. I feel that the inclusion of these links is extremely beneficial. An everyday person that googles "Two Story Coffee" may not think to look them up on social media as well. These links do a great job of leading customers to connect with them.

The one drawback of Two Story's site was that they did not provide any information on their menu. This definitely seemed odd to me. The coffeehouse prides itself so much on their unique menu items and their barista's extensive knowledge of their coffee, so why not publicize that on their website as well?

Two Story uses their social media accounts to update their followers on events, post about new menu items, sell Two Story merchandise, and share pictures from the coffeehouse. They have a strong base of followers and seem to get a lot of appreciation from customers on their accounts. These posts further present the business's connection to the Athens community--driving the connection that students feel to the coffeehouse and prompting them to continue to visit Two Story.

Across the three accounts however, all of the posts are the same. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand, Two Story is promoting the same message whether a customer follows them on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. On the other hand, for the customers that follow them on two or all three accounts, this is repetitive. This issue is a matter of opinion, but I feel that Two Story should aim to target the different types of followers that they have on these accounts with posts that would interest them in particular. For example, a working resident in Athens might like Two Story's Facebook page and want information on upcoming events, where a student in Athens might follow their Instagram account and look more for new menu items to try while they're studying.

Overall, I was impressed by Two Story Coffee's digital marketing efforts. The fact that they are prominent on three large social media channels and have a great website is impressive. There is definitely still room to grow, honing in a target groups on different channels and providing a bit more information on their website, but as a whole I firmly believe that their current efforts are effective.

  2. I love Two Story, so naturally I really enjoyed reading into your thoughts on their social media content. I agree that across platforms, companies need to have a happy mixture of cross-posted content as well as platform-specific content. I'm excited to hear about the coffee shop you go to next week!
